Welcome! My name is Ashleigh, I live in Canberra, Australia. I moved to this amazing city when I was around 7 for a family posting, we were used to moving and this was just the next adventure, so when I am asked if I have lived here my whole life? Almost.
I grew up on the Northside of Canberra with my mum, dad & little brother Aaiden and always attested that Canberra would be where I raise my babies, a quiet, beautiful and organised city that just makes sense, oh, and barely has traffic!
My fiancé Mark & I met in 2013, after about a year together, we certainly solidified our relationship by buying our first home, well…getting into a relationship with the bank. Mark is Canberra born & grew up Northside of Canberra as well, turns out we went to the same high school! He was the year above me, I the year below & yet we didn’t even know each other existed (face palm!) at the time we were at school, but when we figured this out, we whipped out the year books and had a great belly laugh at our magical high school photos, same year books of course.
After dating only a few months, we just…knew, we moved in together very quickly and began to just indulge in all thing’s life! Food, travel, each other. We went to shows & movies, ate at fancy places, travelled near & far! Our farthest and most amazing travel adventure being to the USA in 2019.
We built our house into a home, filling it with love & beautiful things, we welcomed our first rescue animal, Ebony, she sadly suffered a medical mishap as a kitten which rendered her disabled, we were absolutely positive that we could give her the best life possible, so here goes another adventure. Mark came as a diamond duo with his other love, Yogi, the border collie kelpie cross, our home was filling with furry love. Over the next few years, I started up a not-for-profit animal rescue, supporting wild kittens to receive vet care, be socialised & home trained to eventually find loving new homes, all while working a full-time job in early childhood education and care; they say never work with animals or children, well – looks like I was in deep!
We welcomed many an animal into our growing home over the years, from kittens, chickens, lizards & our much-loved scaly chested lorikeet. But, our biggest, loudest, most amazing welcome home, was our twins, in 2020 we fell pregnant with and welcomed (after a horrendous pregnancy), Finn & Alfie, the biggest loves of our lives, tiny little boy bundles, here and ready to flip our world on hits head & back again.
Falling pregnant proved easy, despite being ready to start a family, it was still a shock to see the positive test so soon, I should have known that a SOLID line on that test the week prior to even missing my period was a pretty clear sign that there was a little something extra happening!
The two tiny splotches we saw on our first ultrasound turned 2 in October 2022, we currently have energetic, loud, busy, determined, opinionated and world loving toddlers! They keep us on our toes, they keep us guessing and fill our love cups every day, they wake smiling, sing while they eat, are in complete awe of their world and everything in it, watching the world through their eyes is one of the biggest gifts I could have asked for.
Also, they’re the absolute most scrum-diddly-umptious honey babe cuties I have ever seen, only completely bias!
Throw in our beautiful ginger cat Hamish & our chooks and that’s us in a nutshell, were a normal, busy and complex family who love life & each other, we ride the throws of life and are there with each other no matter what.
So, hello, welcome and this is us!
One response to “Introducing, Us!”
